Bayana minar — the main tower of Bayana fort, in the Bharatpur heritage region

The wider region

The heritage ring.

A constellation of lesser-known sites that explains why this corner of Rajasthan was strategically and religiously important long before the Jat dynasty rose.

Beyond the famous chapters

The long preface.

If you only see Lohagarh and Keoladeo you have seen Bharatpur's two famous chapters. Bayana, Kaman, and Band Baretha are the longer story — a layered medieval and pre-medieval landscape whose monuments together explain why this region was already strategically and religiously important centuries before the Jats consolidated.

Archaeological excavations at Bajna village, near Deeg, have unearthed artifacts belonging to the Mahabharata-era, Maurya, and Shunga periods — pottery and terracotta statues dating back 2,500 to 2,700 years.
